What ENVIZN covers, where the numbers come from, and who writes it.
ENVIZN covers infrastructure: the grids, data centers, factories, and buildings modern life depends on. Trade press knows the components. General press knows the story. Neither usually connects a chip shortage to a substation queue to a permitting calendar, which is where most of the interesting problems actually live.
Where the numbers come from
Primary sources first: regulatory filings, utility planning documents, JEDEC and ASHRAE standards, technical papers, earnings transcripts. Estimates are labeled as estimates and the assumptions sit next to them. Every learning track carries a sources note saying what it drew on and where teaching values were rounded.
ENVIZN does not sell a product, so nothing here is funneling you toward a demo.
The four subjects
Energy
Generation, fuel, markets, and interconnection queues. What a megawatt-hour costs to produce, and how long it takes to get permission to deliver one.
AI
Models, training runs, and inference economics. What the workload actually demands, as opposed to what the announcement claims.
Compute
Accelerators, memory, and the halls built around them. The machinery that turns electricity into arithmetic.
Power
Substations, switchgear, transformers, and cooling. Everything between the grid connection and the chip.
Open questions
The long view here is not a thesis. It is a short list of questions that keep failing to resolve, and most of the work on this site is an attempt to get further into one of them.
- Computing got cheaper for sixty years by getting smaller. It is now getting cheaper by getting bigger.What changes when the binding constraint stops being lithography and becomes land, water, and transmission capacity?
